Tietea singularis is an extinct species of fern that belonged to the family Dicksoniaceae. It is known from fossilized remains found in the Permian-aged (approximately 272 million years ago) Petrified Forest National Park in the state of Paraná, Brazil. The discovery of Tietea singularis sheds light on the diversity of ancient fern species and provides valuable insights into the flora of the Permian period.

This species is particularly notable for its unique characteristics, including its large size and distinctive morphology. Tietea singularis had fronds that could grow up to several meters in length, making it one of the largest ferns known from the fossil record. The fronds were characterized by their elongated shape and highly divided leaflets, giving them a feathery appearance.

The discovery of Tietea singularis contributes to our understanding of ancient ecosystems and the evolution of ferns. It suggests that ferns were an important component of the vegetation during the Permian period and highlights the diversity of plant life that existed millions of years ago.

Starting in the year 2000 Brazil designated an area of protection (the Petrified Forest National Park) to preserve the ecological and paleontological diversity of the area. This piece is from old stock.
